Microneedling Before and after: pricking for more beauty?

microneedling before and after, delicate stitches stimulate the skin’s self-renewal process. This can refine the complexion and even reduce wrinkles or scars. But you shouldn’t expect miracles.

A roller, studded with hundreds of fine needles, rolls over the face, over and over again. What sounds like torture is aimed at making wrinkles disappear and the complexion rejuvenated. Hollywood beauty Angelina Jolie should swear by it that more and more women in cosmetic studios and dermatological practices are getting needles in Germany too. Because behind the prickly treatment, there is a full promise: The needle pricks are supposed to stimulate the skin’s ability to regenerate, which in turn rejuvenates itself.

“One can say that microneedling triggers the finest injuries that the skin registers as wounds,” explains Professor Martina Kerscher. As a dermatologist and cosmetic scientist at the University of Hamburg, she researches cosmetic procedures, among other things. “Various messenger substances and growth factors are then released in the skin to stimulate wound healing.” This process also boosts collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, the firm’s ingredients, elastic skin.

Small prick for more beauty

Beauty is more than necessary to many people. Now you can endure different measures or try microneedling. In any case, one hopes to get youthful skin. We have now asked ourselves what can be achieved with microneedling and whether this beauty restoration is suitable for everyone? In the following article, we have found the answers for you. You will learn what microneedling is and what exactly is behind it.

What is microneedling?

Fine needle pricks stimulate skin renewal in microneedling. Especially with increasing age, the skin does not regenerate as quickly and efficiently, so we get more and more wrinkles. This is precisely what microneedling is supposed to prevent. We should use it to refine our skin and reduce wrinkles. Even scars should be decreased with microneedling. Still, it is essential not to expect miracles with a microneedling neck.

Needling is not just needling.

However, how effective this self-rejuvenation is depended not least on how deep the needles penetrate the skin. “In purely cosmetic skin pen microneedling, the needles only penetrate 0.1 to 0.3 millimeters deep, so only irritate the top layer of skin, the epidermis,” says Dr. Soraya Wojtecki, a dermatologist with a private practice in Cologne. “This can also stimulate collagen production, but only to a small extent.” In the specialist dermatological literature, some experts even completely deny this effect for superficial, cosmetic needling.

Smooth out fine creases

A purely cosmetic application can either be made with the needle roller, the so-called dermaroller, or with a derma-pen, a kind of vibrating pen with fine needles at the tip. The prices for the treatment start at a reasonable hundred euros per session but can also be significantly higher – depending on the method and practitioner. “But you shouldn’t expect miracles from cosmetic microneedling,” says Wojtecki, who herself has often treated with a needler. “But the complexion becomes fresher and rosier overall, and the first, fine creases can be smoothed out.” According to the dermatologist, cosmetic microneedling is particularly suitable for preparing the skin and making it more permeable to absorb creams and serums better.

Collagen production and new skin cells

“It gets exciting from a depth of 0.5 millimeters when the needles also reach the dermis,” says Kerscher. “Then laugh lines or forehead lines can be reduced.” But even deeper needling is powerless mainly against deeply buried nasolabial folds, the lines between the nose and lip, or even sagging, hanging tissue.

In medical microneedling, the fine needles even penetrate one to three millimeters deep into the skin. Then dermatologists observe significant collagen production. New skin cells are also created to a small extent. This can be used to reduce acne scars or stretch marks, for example. If burn scars are to be treated in this way, the health insurance company may cover the treatment costs. Contrary to the term “medical microneedling” suggests, this method is used in dermatological practices and cosmetic studios.

microneedling before and after – From prick to pain
In general, if you want to see effects, you have to be patient because collagen build-up and skin renewal take time. “To reduce wrinkles, we recommend six to eight applications every two weeks,” says Hamburg cosmetologist Kerscher. “Then, three to six months later, you can expect improvements.”

How painful the procedure is perceived varies from person to person – what some perceive only as a painful prick hurts others. With deeper so-called medical microneedling, a numbing cream is applied before the treatment. In contrast to the more superficial variant, bleeding also occurs here.

microneedling before and after – Be careful with dehydrated skin

Good UV protection is the order of the day immediately after use. “Otherwise, you have to expect that you will have fewer wrinkles but will get pigment spots instead,” warns Wojtecki. She, therefore, recommends having a skin pen microneedling treatment carried out in autumn and winter. It also applies that it may only be used on healthy, closed skin for every type of needling. Unfortunately, those who suffer from wounds, eczema, psoriasis, active acne, or cold sores have to do without. Wound healing disorders, for example, due to diabetes, are problematic, at least for medical needling. Also, skin cancer or previous chemotherapy or radiation therapy are contraindications. Caution is also advised with dehydrated skin and neurodermatitis and sensitive skin that tends to redden from rosacea or couperose.

Hygiene is important

“A detailed skin analysis before skin pen microneedling is therefore mandatory,” says the Cologne dermatologist. Another quality feature that you should look out for before being beaten with a needle roller or pen is suitable hygiene measures – the user should wear a face mask, skin and devices disinfected, or disposable devices used. Otherwise, there is a risk of skin infections or abscesses. It would help if you also took enough time for yourself. “A good microneedling neck treatment takes at least 30 to 45 minutes,” says Wojtecki.

Analyze the skin beforehand

In general, however, she has no concerns about having cosmetic microneedling neck applied in the decorative studio. Even careful self-treatment is conceivable. The same applies here: Pay attention to good hygiene. For example, do not share the device with your girlfriend. Also, you shouldn’t use too much pressure. If it’s painful, roll more gently. And finally, it is advisable to have a thorough skin analysis carried out beforehand and consult a dermatologist immediately in the event of severe skin reactions. Wojtecki advises those who are unsure should go straight to the dermatologist’s practice: “They can act immediately if unwanted skin reactions such as severe swelling, bruises or eczema occur.”

Devices for microneedling

The device looks like this. It is a roller that is peppered with a large number of tiny and fine needles. But you can already tell from the name. This roller is rolled over the face and, in the process, is supposed to rejuvenate your face due to the needles. But this has to be done over and over again. It is so that even Hollywood beauties swear by this tool. In this country, too, there are more and more women who can be renewed through needling.

microneedling before and after – Microneedling Aftercare

A special follow-up treatment is not necessary after a micro-needling therapy with a dermaroller. After a few days, the patient can continue using the vitamin-containing skincare creams. In times of intense sun exposure, the application of light protection with a high factor is recommended.

The needle pricks stimulate the skin’s ability to regenerate in microneedling training. Your skin will rejuvenate by itself and without the addition of chemical substances.

Microneedling in detail

it is so that the skin is injured with the needles. Now the skin should heal again, and that is precisely what happens. Wound healing takes place using messenger substances and growth factors. In addition, collagen is produced, and elastin and hyaluronic acid are released. The skin needs all of this to remain elastic.

But beware!

Unfortunately, you have to know how exactly the needling has to occur, and that is precisely what you can find out in the Wiesbaden cosmetic studio. You will receive professional advice here, and the advantages will be explained to you in more detail. It is also important how many needles work with the microneedling stretch marks. How deep these penetrate the skin also plays a significant role. Usually, this is only the case between 0.1 and 0.3 mm. This means that only the top layer of leather is injured during microneedling stretch marks.

microneedling before and after – Devices in use

There is the dermaroller. This is used for purely cosmetic applications. Then there is also the Derma Pen. It is used to pierce the skin using vibration. Superficial wrinkles can usually be treated with microneedling. It is also efficient for you to use microneedling stretch marks when using creams because the creams can be absorbed better.

Deeper realms

But it also goes deeper into the skin with rf microneedling. This allows needle sticks up to 0.5 mm to be inserted. The dermis is located at this depth, and this is where laugh lines can be removed or forehead wrinkles reduced. If, on the other hand, your skin is slack, this rf microneedling cannot help you either.

Applications to plan for!

Are you hoping for quick success? Unfortunately, this is not the case. If you want to see microneedling results, you should endure several treatments. Are you sure you want to know if it hurts? It depends on you. Because everyone experiences pain differently and you should judge for yourself whether it is an option for you. With rf microneedling, however, an anesthetic cream is usually applied before the treatment.

microneedling before and after – When should you refrain from microneedling?

Do you suffer from dry skin? Then microneedling with rf is not suitable for you. Also, if you plan to go into the sun after the application, you should avoid it. It only works if you put on perfect sunscreen. microneedling with rf should be limited to the autumn or winter months. microneedling training should only be used on intact skin. The individual treatments should be planned within a short time. In any case, you can get advice in advance.

Skin analysis and hygiene

Make sure you are very hygienic when you have microneedling carried out. It also plays a role in what type of skin you have. So let your dermatologist carry out a test in advance. In this way, you can later tell precisely what skin type you are.

Is microneedling suitable?

Generally yes. You will experience a slight rejuvenation with it. In any case, be careful not to expect too much. You should also receive individual advice and ask questions if you have any.
